The Spokane Guilds’ School & Neuromuscular Center is a 12 month family-based program for children (birth to age 3) with special needs. It began in 1960 as a volunteer program interested in educating the community about children with disabilities. Today, SGS&NMC is a year-round center with a professional staff of certified teachers and therapists serving children who experience many types of developmental delays. The neuromuscular center is fully staffed with pediatric nurses, a pediatrician and medical social workers. Annually, more than 250 Spokane county children and their families are served without regard to race, gender, religion or ability to pay. This includes children with cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, spinal bifida, hearing /vision impairments, speech delays, muscular dystrophy, autism, shaken baby injuries and other forms of rare syndromes and developmental delays. SGS&NMC currently can only serve 30% of the children in Spokane County who are eligible and in need of this program. The annual Kids for Kids Penny Drive brings in much needed revenue to support the work at the Guilds’ School. During April, “God’s Hands at Work” team will be collecting donations for the Kids for Kids penny drive. Milk carton change collection banks can be picked up at the Welcome Center and from the church office. Donations will be collected through April 24 and then taken to the Community Day penny drive. Let’s see how much Zion can contribute to these special children and families in our area. Pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, dollars and more … all are welcome. Thank you for your continued support of the many needs in our neighborhoods and our community.
